SEC Predictions: Week Five

I went 9-1 last week in straight up predictions, thanks a lot Arkansas. Against the spread I went 4-5 which brings me to 39-6 straight up and 23-15 against the spread for the season. Sixty percent on games against the spread is pretty good, so take my advice while I am hot or go bet on NFL football if you don’t like my picks.

Saturday, Sept 29th

Missouri (2-2) at UCF (2-1), Noon

Missouri is still licking their wounds from the tail kicking they got at the hands of South Carolina last week and now they are on the road again. These two teams have combined to win against Akron, FIU, Southeastern Louisiana and Arizona State. On the flip side, they’ve lost to South Carolina, Georgia and Ohio State. We really don’t know how good these two teams can be and the fact that UCF is a 3 point favorite shows that. I’m going with Missouri here. It will be close but the Tigers will pull away at the end.

Missouri 31 UCF 21

Arkansas (1-3, 0-1 SEC) at Texas A&M (2-1, 0-1 SEC), Noon, SEC Network

Arkansas/Texas A&M is a tough one to predict. I thought with the return of Tyler Wilson last week that Arkansas would be able to get back on track. That didn’t happen and now they are going into a very hostile environment on the road. A&M on the other hand has yet to get a quality win under their belt and are still battling a culture of folding in the second half of games. The line on this game is 15 in favor of A&M. If you are a gambler, take the Hogs but I would look for A&M to pull this one out by single digits.

Texas A&M 38 Arkansas 35

Tennessee (3-1, 0-1 SEC) at Georgia (4-0, 2-0 SEC), 3 PM, CBS

Mark Richt is 2-0 against Derek Dooley’s Vols and Georgia is coming off of it’s best game of the year. Georgia also gets two of it’s best defensive players back this week, Bacarri Rambo and Alec Ogletree. I think this is an improved Tennessee football team and they have the talent to surprise some folks this season. That being said, if the same Georgia team that showed up last week shows up this week the Vols are going to be in a world of pain. I expect Georgia to wear down the Vols and take over late like they did against Mizzou. The point spread is 14 and I’ve been thinking Tennessee would keep it closer than that all week. On second thought, I think Georgia will open it up late by just a tad more than the spread.

Georgia 35 Tennessee 17

South Carolina (4-0, 2-0 SEC) at Kentucky (1-3, 0-1 SEC), 7 PM, ESPN2

We don’t need to break this one down do we? The Gamecocks are a 21 point favorite (last year South Carolina won by 51). I like the Gamecocks in this one.

South Carolina 38 Kentucky 7

Towson (2-1) at LSU (4-0, 1-0 SEC), 7 PM, ESPNU

Towson is a good little team for their level of football. But this is LSU and this is a “get well” game for LSU and Zach Mettengerger. Close your eyes kids, this one is gonna get ugly.

LSU 41 Towson 0

Ole Miss (3-1) at Alabama (4-0, 1-0 SEC), 9:15 PM, ESPN

Ole Miss has played one “big boy” football game and in that game they lost 66-31 against Texas. Alabama is a 30 point favorite and considering they beat Arkansas by 52 I think that’s a pretty good bet.
