I got invited last year to take part in our friend Kyle Kensing’s “Detmer Award” over at Saturday Blitz. What exactly is the “Detmer Award”? Here is how he describes it:
The five non-BCS conferences and 75 percent of the independents are differentiated from the Big Six in virtually every other facet, so it only makes sense the best players from this subdivision-subdivision have an award for its best player. Just as fitting is for this honor to bear the name of the last player from one of these universities to win college football’s top honor, 1990 Heisman winner and BYU quarterback Ty Detmer. SaturdayBlitz.com will track this completely exclusive field’s progress throughout the season.
Here is my week six ballot based on game performance. Feel free to chime in with who you would have voted for based on last weeks performance…
#1 Jordan Lynch, NIU– led the Huskies to their fifth win of the season with another dual threat effort. Lynch passed for 195 yards and 1 TD and ran for 207 yards and 3 TD with a long of 71 yards.
#2 Dri Archer, Kent State– Archer scored three different ways on Saturday to help his team to victory. He scored a rushing TD, caught a pass for a TD and had a 98 yard kick-off return for a TD.
#3 Derek Carr, Fresno State– The Bulldogs are quietly having a good year and Carr is a big reason why. He posted 4 TD vs 0 INT this weekend in a 28 to 7 victory over Colorado State.
#4 Kasey Carrier, New Mexico– Carrier helped Bob Davie and crew roll over Texas State with 191 yards rushing and 4 TDs. Carrier and the Lobos were so dominant on the ground that they only needed to complete one pass to win the game.
#5 Charles Sims, Houston– Helped the Cougars win their second game of the season by rushing for 210 yards and 1 TD and added 5 receptions with 1 TD.
