College Football Week Eight Viewing Schedule

Time flies when you are having fun and seven weeks of college football have already passed us by! Week eight is upon us and here are the games you should be watching…

Thursday, October 18th

Oregon (6-0, 3-0) at Arizona State (5-1, 3-0), 9 PM, ESPN

So far Oregon has looked really good but they haven’t played any top notch competitors as their best wins are over Arizona and Washington. Both of those were home games for the Ducks. This week, Chip Kelly and his high octane offense heads to Tempe to take on a 5-1 Arizona State team that had a slip up on the road at Missouri but looks to be the toughest challenge to date for Oregon.

Friday, October 19th

UConn (3-4, 0-2) at Syracuse (2-4, 1-1), 8 PM, ESPN

On paper this is definitely not a sexy match-up but if you found this site then odds are that you are a hardcore college football fan. Syracuse has only won two games but they’ve been very competitive with their largest loss being to USC by 13 points. All of their other losses have been by eight points or less. UConn on the other hand has a chance to even their record at 4-4 and they will have just four games left on their schedule after this one so this game means a lot to them in terms of bowl eligibility. Last years game was a close seven point match-up so this years game figures to be the same and Syracuse also will be looking to break a five game losing streak to the Huskies.

Saturday, October 20th

LSU (6-1, 2-1) at Texas A&M (5-1, 2-1), Noon, ESPN

This is LSU’s third straight game against a Top 25 opponent as they are coming off of a loss at Florida and a win at home against South Carolina. The big storyline in this game will be how A&M’s freshman phenom Johnny Manziel can do against the LSU defense. A&M is averaging 47 points per game and LSU is allowing just 14. Something is going to give. Will it be A&M or LSU?

There are a few other interesting games in this timeslot to checkout: Rutgers/Temple, Purdue/Ohio State (ABC/ESPN 2) and Virginia Tech/Clemson (ABC/ESPN 2).

South Carolina (6-1, 4-1) at Florida (6-0, 5-0), 3:30 CBS

This is a huge game in the SEC East that will go a long way to deciding who will represent that side of the conference in their Championship game. South Carolina is at the end of a three-game stretch in which they play three top ten teams. So far the Gamecocks are 1-1 and now they face a pivotal game in the swamp against the Gators. South Carolina was fantastic at home against Georgia but couldn’t conjure that same magic on the road last week in Death Valley against LSU. The Gamecocks will once again go into a very hostile environment with a lot on the line.

Three other games to checkout in this timeslot: Michigan/Michigan State (Big Ten Network), Nebraska/Northwestern (ABC/ESPN 2) and Texas Tech/TCU (ABC/ESPN 2).

Kansas State (6-0, 3-0) at West Virginia (5-1, 2-1), 7 PM, FOX

With their big win earlier this season over Oklahoma, the Wildcats are the front runners in the Big 12. The Mountaineers are coming off of a very disappointing outing against Texas Tech in Lubbock and are looking to put that behind them as they return home. Another interesting storyline in this game is the fact that two of the leading Heisman candidates, Collin Klein and Geno Smith, will go head to head. If that’s not enough to get you to watch then do it for Gus Johnson who will be going wild if West Virginia can get their offense on track. Utah (2-4, 0-3) at Oregon State (5-0, 3-0), 10:30 PM, ESPN2

This is a game that pits one of the most disappointing teams in the Pac-12 against the most surprising. Utah has not lived up to expectations and has not been very good on the road (0-3) so far this season. But, weird things happen when games look like mis-matches on paper. The Beavers have been lights out so far this season but they will be going to battle again with their back-up QB, Cody Vaz. In his second outing will he be as impressive as he was in his first and what will happen when he meets up with Utah star defensive lineman Star Lotulelei?
