If you took my advice last week you got to watch Texas A&M upset Alabama. You’re welcome, unless you are a Bama fan and then you probably don’t like me very much (although I did pick Bama to win). Sure I told you to watch Wisconsin/Indiana instead of Louisville/Syracuse but did we really think the Cuse would pull off the upset? Here is what to watch this week….
Wednesday, November 14th
Toledo (8-2, 5-1) at NIU (9-1, 6-0), 9 PM, ESPN2
The MAC will be on display on Wed night with two games. Ohio/Ball State starts at 8 pm on ESPNU and then it’s Toledo/NIU at 9 pm on ESPN2. Toledo/NIU is a huge game for the MAC standings as NIU is 6-0 in the conference and Toledo is 5-1. Keep an eye on NIU QB Jordan Lynch. He’s one of the top dual threat QBs in the Nation and he is looking to keep his team undefeated in the MAC.
Thursday, November 15th
UNC (6-4, 3-3) at Virginia (4-6, 2-4), 7:30 PM, ESPN
Sigh. The ACC. What can we say? Watch this one because the odds are there will be some points scored. After dropping six straight games, the Cavs have gotten their season back on track by beating NC State 33-6 and Miami 41-40. The Cavs still need two wins to become bowl eligible so this is a must win for them. UNC is a team going in the opposite direction. UNC has dropped two of their last three games and has given up at least 33 points in all of those games. The Tar Heels are coming off of surrendering 68 points (yes 68 points!) to Georgia Tech last week. Can Larry Fedora and his team bounce back from that performance?
Saturday, November 17th
Rutgers (8-1, 4-0) at Cincinnati (7-2, 3-1), Noon, Big East Network
I would tell you to sleep in but this game might be interesting and it has BCS bowl implications. Other than this one, the morning games don’t have much to offer unless you have a dog in the fight. This is a huge game in the Big East as Rutgers controls it’s own destiny as the only undefeated team left in conference play and the Bearcats could still win the conference with a win here and a Scarlet Knights victory over Louisville in late November.
USC (7-3, 5-3) at UCLA (8-2, 5-2), 3:05 PM, FOX
This “rivalry” hasn’t been much of a rivalry lately. USC has won the last five meetings and 12 of the last 13. That includes a 50-0 win last season. This is the first game of the Jim L Mora era and Mora will want to stake his claim in this rivalry. UCLA is coming in this game on a hot streak with four straight wins and USC is limping a bit as they have lost two of their last three. While you watch this game keep an eye on two undefeated teams as they try to survive another week (Notre Dame/Wake Forest and Ohio State/Wisconsin).
Stanford (8-2, 6-1) at Oregon (10-0, 7-0), 8 PM, ABC
Oregon has run rough shot over the Pac-12 with their closest game being the USC game where the Ducks put 62 points on the scoreboard. In conference games, Oregon is scoring 55.1 points per game and are beating their peers by an average of 33.7 points per game. Is the Pac-12 that awful or is Oregon that good? It’s probably a little bit of both and also the fact that the Ducks are yet to play the two best defenses (at least statistically) in the Pac-12 (Oregon State and Stanford). In conference games, the Cardinal are only giving up 17.4 ppg and have only given up more than 23 points one time. That being said, I wouldn’t put too much stock in Stanford winning this game. With Andrew Luck last year, and playing at home, the Cardinal still lost by 23. While you watch this game keep an eye on Kansas State/Baylor and see if Baylor can pull a rabbit out of their hat like RG3 did last year against Oklahoma.
