The number thirteen is often associated with bad luck but last week it was the number twelve that brought the bad luck for Kansas State and Oregon. Week thirteen brings us some good rivalry games although others have been banished by re-alignment. Here is what you should be watching this week:
Thursday, November 22nd
TCU (6-4, 3-4) at Texas (8-2, 5-2), 7:30 PM, ESPN
Texas is replacing Texas A&M with the TCU game/rivalry. It's nice to see these two teams playing again but wouldn't it be great to see the Aggies and the Longhorns go at it this year? Settle in for this one after your turkey.
Friday, November 23rd
Ohio (8-3, 4-3) at Kent State (10-1, 7-0), 11AM, ESPNU
There are some more high profile games in this timeslot like Syracuse/Temple and Nebraska/Iowa but this game will no dobut be the most exciting of those three. Ohio is a solid team but is on a bit of a slide as they've dropped three of four. If you haven't watched Kent State play this year make sure you catch them and their star Dri Archer.
LSU (9-2, 5-2) at Arkansas (4-7, 2-5), 2:30 PM, CBS
LSU tends to play close games and that's a big reason to watch this game. The Tigers only beat lowly Auburn by two, they beat the Gamecocks by two, they beat the Aggies by five and they beat Ole Miss by six last week. Odds are this game will be closer than it should be and if it isn't I'm sure Les Miles will reward us with a priceless press conference.
Arizona State (6-5, 4-4) at Arizona (7-4, 4-4), 10 PM, ESPN
Finish off your triple header by watching the "Duel in the Desert". The most interesting thing about this game is that both teams have a first year head coach and both coaches want to get the better of their rival in their debut game in this rivalry. Who will take home the Territorial Cup? Make sure you have lots of alcohol ready for this game in case you want to check your bank account and see what damage your wife and/or significant other did today on Black Friday.
Saturday, November 24th
Georgia Tech (6-5) at Georgia (10-1), Noon, ESPN
Maybe you want to watch Michigan/Ohio State in this timeslot but Georgia has a legitimate shot at going to the National Championship Game and that's why you should watch this rivalry game first. Georgia has won the last three (and ten of eleven) in "Clean, Old Fashioned Hate" but there hasn't been a game in this rivalry with so much on the line for one team in recent memory. Georgia warmed up for Tech's triple option by beating Georgia Southern last week but Tech is on a hot streak winning three straight and averaging 47.6 ppg and an 18.6 margin of victory.
Florida (10-1) at FSU (10-1), 3:30 PM, ABC
This timeslot boasts some really interesting games including Oregon/Oregon State and Oklahoma/Oklahoma State. After six straight wins in this rivlary for Florida, FSU has seized control with two straight. In addition to being a riviarly game, this is also a game between two top ten teams that are jockeying for poisition in the BCS bowls.
Stanford (9-2, 7-1) at UCLA (9-2, 6-2), 6:30 PM, FOX
Notre Dame tries to stay undefeated against USC and Clemson tries to break South Carolina's three game rivalry win streak but after last week the most interesting prime time game is Stanford/UCLA. Can Jim L Mora continue his improbable turnaround of the Bruins? Stanford stoned the Oregon running attack last week, can they do the same against the third leading rushing team in the Pac-12 this week? Another interesting note is that if Stanford wins this game, we will see a re-match in the Pac-12 Championship Game.
Louisiana Tech (9-2, 4-1) at San Jose State (9-2, 4-1), 10:30 PM, ESPN2
Louisiana Tech lost a thriller last week to WAC leader Utah State. This game pits the two top scoring offenses in the WAC with La Tech averaging 52.3 and SJSU averaging 33.7. Watch this as the nite cap as the scoreboard lights up.
