The Michigan Wolverines got some great news today as their starting QB Devin Gardner was granted an additional year of eligibility by the NCAA. Coming out of high school, Gardner was ranked by Scout.com as the #5 QB in his class and was given the prestigious five star ranking.

Gardner debuted for Michigan in 2010 as the Wolverines had a crowed QB group that included Tate Forcier and Denard Robinson. Gardner didn't play much that season and sat out most of the year with a back injury.
In 2011, the Wolverines started to get Gardner on the field more as he played in 9 games, ran the ball 25 times, had 23 passing attempts and caught one pass.
2012 started with Gardner moving to wide receiver and ended with him as the starting QB. For the year, Gardner had 16 receptions, 4 receiving TDs, 101 yards rushing, 7 rushing TDs, 1219 yards passing and 11 passing TDs. Gardner took over as the starting QB in the ninth game of the season and led the Wolverines to three straight victories before dropping their last two games (both to top ten teams) by a total of ten points. Gardner completed 59.5% of his passes in 2012 with a TD to INT ratio of 11:5.
Heading into 2013, Gardner will be much better equipped to be the starting QB for the Wolverines as he will have an entire off-season taking snaps and getting reps as QB1. Going into this season, Gardner planned on this being his senior season but now he will be a red-shirt junior which gives him, and Michigan, a lot more options for their future..
