SEC Predictions: Week Eight

Manziel vs Auburn 2012

Last week I went 6-1 on straight up picks and 3-3 against the spread. That brings me to 57-9 (86%) for straight up picks on the season and 36-25 (59%) against the spread. Here are this weeks picks….

#15 Georgia (4-2, 3-1) at Vanderbilt (3-3, 0-3)

Noon EST, CBS

Line: Georgia by 7

Georgia has been in an injury induced funk the last two weeks. They escaped against Tennessee but lost to Missouri at home after some key turnovers. Todd Gurley and Tray Matthews are still out for Georgia. Both teams are coming off of home losses to Missouri, but Vandy has had a week off. So far this year Vandy's three wins have come against Austin Peay, UMass and UAB. The three SEC games they've played (Ole Miss, South Carolina and Mizzou) they've lost. Georgia wins this game, the question is if they can cover the spread.

Prediction: Georgia 31 Vanderbilt 21

#11 South Carolina (5-1, 3-1) at Tennessee (3-3, 0-2)

Noon EST, ESPN

Line: South Carolina by 7.5

Tennessee has had a week off after their OT loss to Georgia while South Carolina might have found itself in Arkansas last weekend. Like Vandy, Tennessee is yet to beat anybody. Their wins have come against Austin Peay, WKU and South Alabama. Until Tennessee proves they can beat somebody, you have to go with their opponent.

Prediction: South Carolina 35 Tennessee 17

#22 Florida (4-2, 3-1) at #14 Missouri (6-0, 2-0)

12:21 PM EST, SEC TV

Line: Florida by 3

Missouri returns home after the biggest win of their young SEC career on the road last week against Georgia. Florida stays on the road after a tough eleven point loss to LSU last week. Both teams have critical injuries heading into this week with Mizzou losing QB James Franklin and Florida losing RB Matt Jones. Maty Mauk will get the start against a stout Gators defense. I like that match-up for the Gators. The lower scoring game this is, the more it favors Florida.

Prediction: Florida 17 Missouri 13

#24 Auburn (5-2, 2-1) at #7 Texas A&M (5-2, 2-1)

3:30 PM EST, CBS

Line: A&M by 14

A key game in the SEC West and a huge litmus test to see where Auburn stands in year one of the Gus Malzahn era. Look for Manziel to be too much for the improved Tigers defense.

Prediction: Texas A&M 38 Auburn 26

#6 LSU (6-1, 3-1) at Ole Miss (3-3, 1-3)

7 PM EST, ESPN2

Line: LSU by 10

LSU is coming off of a big win against Florida and Ole Miss is coming off of a close loss to Texas A&M. I don't like this match-up for the Rebels despite them having home field advantage. I see LSU leaning on Ole Miss for four quarters. It will be close early but LSU will pull away at the end.

Prediction: LSU 35 Ole Miss 17

Arkansas (3-4, 0-3) at #1 Alabama (6-0, 3-0)

7 PM EST, ESPN

Line: Bama by 28

Arkansas got steam rolled by South Carolina last week. Alabama hasn't been challenged for a while and I'm beginning to wonder if they are getting a bit bored. The big question here is if Bama will stay motivated enough late to cover the 28 points.

Prediction: Alabama 42 Arkansas 10
