Now that Athlon’s college football magazine has hit the newstands and Phil Steele has posted his pre-season teams, I thought it would be interested in comparing the two and their SEC picks.
QB
Nick Marshall (Auburn) and Bo Wallace (Ole Miss) were unanimous first and second team selections
RB
Todd Gurley (UGA) and TJ Yeldon (Bama) were unanimous first team selections
Mike Davis (South Carolina) was a unanimous second team selection
Athlon went with Alex Collins (Arkansas) and Steele went with Jonathan Williams (Arkansas) on the second team
WR (Steele chose three for each team while Athlon went with two)
Amari Cooper (Bama) was unanimous first team
Steele also went with Sammie Coates (Auburn) and Jameon Lewis (Miss State) on his first team and Athlon went with Laquon Treadwell (Ole Miss).
Malcolm Mitchell (UGA) was unanimous second team
Steele had Treadwell and DeAndrew White (Bama) on his second team while Athlon went with Coates

OJ Howard (Bama) and Hunter Henry (Arkansas) were unanimous first and second team
C
Reese Dismukes (Auburn) was unanimous first team
Steele went with Ryan Kelly (Bama) and Athlon went with David Andrews (UGA) on second team

AJ Cann (South Carolina) was unanimous first team
Arie Kouandijo (Bama) was Steele’s other pick for first team and Athlon went with Alex Kozan (Auburn)
On the second team Steele went with Kozan and Vadal Alexander (LSU) while Athlon went with Jarvis Harrison (A&M) and Aaron Morris (Ole Miss)
OT
Cedric Ogbuehi (A&M) was unanimous first team
Steele went with La’el Collins (LSU) and Athlon chose Laremy Tunsil (Ole Miss) for the other slot on the first team.
Steele picked Brandon Shell (South Carolina) and Tunsil for his second team while Athlon went with Collins and Austin Shepard (Bama)
Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee and Vanderbilt all landed no players on these first and second teams.
