fila

Now that Athlon’s college football magazine has hit the newstands and Phil Steele has posted his pre-season teams, I thought it would be interested in comparing the two and their SEC picks.

QB

Nick Marshall (Auburn) and Bo Wallace (Ole Miss) were unanimous first and second team selections

RB

Todd Gurley (UGA) and TJ Yeldon (Bama) were unanimous first team selections

Mike Davis (South Carolina) was a unanimous second team selection

Athlon went with Alex Collins (Arkansas) and Steele went with Jonathan Williams (Arkansas) on the second team

WR (Steele chose three for each team while Athlon went with two)

Amari Cooper (Bama) was unanimous first team

Steele also went with Sammie Coates (Auburn) and Jameon Lewis (Miss State) on his first team and Athlon went with Laquon Treadwell (Ole Miss).

Malcolm Mitchell (UGA) was unanimous second team

Steele had Treadwell and DeAndrew White (Bama) on his second team while Athlon went with Coates

TE

OJ Howard (Bama) and Hunter Henry (Arkansas) were unanimous first and second team

C

Reese Dismukes (Auburn) was unanimous first team

Steele went with Ryan Kelly (Bama) and Athlon went with David Andrews (UGA) on second team

OG

AJ Cann (South Carolina) was unanimous first team

Arie Kouandijo (Bama) was Steele’s other pick for first team and Athlon went with Alex Kozan (Auburn)

On the second team Steele went with Kozan and Vadal Alexander (LSU) while Athlon went with Jarvis Harrison (A&M) and Aaron Morris (Ole Miss)

OT

Cedric Ogbuehi (A&M) was unanimous first team

Steele went with La’el Collins (LSU) and Athlon chose Laremy Tunsil (Ole Miss) for the other slot on the first team.

Steele picked Brandon Shell (South Carolina) and Tunsil for his second team while Athlon went with Collins and Austin Shepard (Bama)

Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee and Vanderbilt all landed no players on these first and second teams.
