SEC Football: Week Three Predictions

wild1_5f00_thumb_5f00_4e99af41

Last week was a complete dud in terms of SEC games. This week we get a little more excitement….

UCF (0-1) at Missouri (2-0), Noon, SEC Network

Line: Mizzou by 10.5

These teams met in 2012 with Missouri hanging on for the victory. I like the home field advantage for the Tigers but I do feel that they will be tested. Look for this to be a close game throughout with Mizzou pulling away at the end.

Prediction: Missouri 31 UCF 17

UMass (0-2) at Vanderbilt (0-2), Noon

Somebody’s 0 must go. Vandy has been embarrassed in two games as they’ve scored a total of 10 points. UMass hasn’t been too much better but did almost beat Colorado last week. Vandy is a huge favorite in this one which seems strange. Take the points.

Prediction: Vanderbilt 23 UMass 20

Arkansas (1-1) at Texas Tech (2-0), 3:30 PM, ABC

Line: Texas Tech by 1

Texas Tech has struggled out of the gate and has failed to cover in each of their first two contests. I like Arkansas’s chances in this one. I think they will establish the running game and I think they will be able to control the ball for the majority of the game. Brandon Allen needs to play under control and limit the mistakes and I think the Hogs can come out of Lubbock with the best win so far in the Bielema regime.

Prediction: Arkansas 31 Texas Tech 28

Georgia (1-0) at South Carolina (1-1), 3:30 PM, CBS

Line: Georgia by 7

I wrote about this game earlier this week for The Student Section. I don’t know if Georgia can recapture what they had in the second half against Clemson but I do think they will pull away late despite South Carolina starting to find themselves after two lackluster games.

Prediction: Georgia 31 South Carolina 21

Louisiana-Lafayette (1-1) at Ole Miss (2-0), 4 PM, SEC Network

Line: Ole Miss by 28

I liked this match-up for ULL a lot better before they got steamrolled by Louisiana Tech last week. That being said, Mark Hudspeth is a very good coach and I think he will have the Cajuns playing better this week….but not good enough to win the game.

Prediction: Ole Miss 38 Louisiana 20

Mississippi State (2-0) at South Alabama (1-0), 4 PM, ESPNews

Line: Miss State by 14

Kind of a strange game here with the Bulldogs traveling to play at South Alabama. And don’t forget that they are coming off of a lackluster performance against UAB. This one could be tricky.

Prediction: Mississippi State 28 South Alabama 20

Southern Miss (1-1) at Alabama (2-0), 6 PM, ESPN 2

Line: Alabama by 49

Tide rolls but that’s a hell of a line to try and cover.

Prediction: Alabama 49 Southern Miss 7

UL Monroe (2-0) at LSU (2-0), 7 PM, ESPNU

Line: LSU by 31

LSU won the last game in this series 51-0 but that was back in 2010. I like UL Monroe to keep the game under 30 unless it gets out of hand late.

Prediction: LSU 38 UL Monroe 14

Kentucky (2-0) at Florida (1-0), 7:30 PM, SEC Network

Line: Florida by 19

Florida’s offense looked impressive in their first game and Kentucky has looked good so far against inferior competition. I still don’t like Florida to beat anybody by 19. Take the points.

Prediction: Florida 31 Kentucky 24

Tennessee (2-0) at Oklahoma (2-0), 8 PM, ABC

Line: Oklahoma by 22

Tennessee has played well against two good mid-major opponents so far this season. This will be a huge test for them but I see them making improvements and I don’t think it will be the disaster that it was when they went out to Eugene. Sooners will win but it should be a good game for a while.

Prediction: Oklahoma 35 Tennessee 21

Rice (0-2) at Texas A&M (2-0), 9 PM, ESPN2

Line: A&M by 33

A&M won 52-31 last season but that Rice team was better than this years team. I look for A&M to cover in this one.

Prediction: A&M 52 Rice 17
