Dave Magadan, former San Diego Padres’ hitting coach, has been hired in an unknown capacity by the Red Sox. Magadan’s most recent role was as hitting coach of the Padres, but he was fired on June 15th for the Padres had an anemic .253 batting average.
Magadan, known for his plate disclipine as a player, knew Theo Epstein in San Diego and could end up as a special assistant to Epstein, not as hitting coach.
