The Change of Seasons in Philadelphia

Here in Philadelphia there has been little to talk about when it comes to sports. Thanks to Cole Hamels this week, he gave us the chance to reminisce of the old Phillies and how things used to be. As for the Sixers, Okafor will be exciting to watch but we’re still far away from seeing good basketball. Hextall is making some moves for the Flyers but they’re still a couple players away as well.

Stuck in the middle of summer with training camp less than a week away brings a lot of optimism and joy to this city. Before you know it, the seasons will change, the nights will get colder, the sun will set earlier, and a highly anticipated football season will be underway.

Change is something Chip Kelly made happen since he’s been in Philadelphia. After one of the most absurd off season’s this town has seen, we are finally ready to see the new and improved Philadelphia Eagles as they report to training camp August 2nd. The change-up of the roster the Eagles had caught a lot of people off guard. Something Chip Kelly has a tendency of doing to people. “Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.” This quote was stated by George Bernard Shaw, an Irish play writer. This quote is something Chip Kelly must believe in. Chip Kelly didn’t think too highly of a 10-6 football team who barely missed the playoffs last year. He saw a team who didn’t fit the “culture” of the Eagles. Which is why he wanted full control of making moves this off season.

Kelly was making headlines almost every day with the moves he made in the off season and has set us up for an unpredictable season. As the season gets closer their may be more big moves made such as moving Kendricks or Boykin.

With all that being said, all eyes will be on Sam Bradford once training camp gets going. The most important position is the biggest uncertainty for the Eagles this year. IF Bradford is healthy he is the guy (for this year at least). If not we deal with Sanchez again, who does have a year under Kelly’s system and in my opinion is a quality backup. In this system, Mark Sanchez may be able to lead this team to the playoffs but that’s about it. It will be interesting to see the how these two perform during camp and most importantly how Bradford’s ACL feels. How will the rookies impact the team this year? How much will we miss Mathis and Herremans? What will our secondary look like? All these questions will begin to be answered for us as training camp gets underway. Competition is a beautiful thing and training camp will have a lot of it here in Philadelphia.

We will get through training camp, we will get through pre-season, and pretty soon it will be September 14th. The Seasons will change quickly from summer to fall, and from pre-season to the regular season. Hopefully the Eagles make a big change in their franchise this season by doing something that’s never been done before. Winning a Super Bowl and bringing the Lombardi Trophy to Philadelphia. Let’s get this thing going!
