Encouraging Signs from Sam Bradford

There are a lot of things the Eagles want to forget from Monday night’s game against the Falcons, but the one thing the team should be pleased with is how Sam Bradford played in that game aside from the two interceptions. After a slow start in the first half, Bradford was able to get in a groove and he showed off his pinpoint accuracy, putting the Eagles in a position to win.

After former Eagles quarterback Nick Foles and second overall pick Marcus Mariota each opened the season with wins, all eyes were on Sam Bradford, who nobody expected to be in an Eagles uniform this year. Coming into Monday night’s game, Sam Bradford hadn’t played in game in about two years and the rust showed in the first half, but that was to be expected. Another thing everyone saw earlier in the game is Bradford and the receivers weren’t on the same page yet because this group didn’t really have a chance in game situations to iron the kinks out and it’s one of the reasons the Eagles fell behind early.

Luckily, Bradford didn’t let the slow start stop him and he came out firing in the second half. Even with a shaky offensive line, Bradford was able to stay in the pocket and make the necessary throws to keep the Eagles moving. Bradford completed 21 of 25(completed 84% of is passes) in the second half for 219 yards and a touchdown. Most of the passes weren’t more than ten yards, but with the lack of time Bradford had in the pocket, he had to take what the defense gave him. You saw Bradford really find his groove on the Eagles second scoring drive in third quarter where Bradford completed nine of ten passes for 91 yards capping it off with a five-yard touchdown pass to DeMarco Murray. It’d be nice to see what Sam Bradford  can do with the Eagles offense running on all cylinders and having a lead. The Eagles strayed away from the running game after falling behind early causing Bradford to drop back 52 times, but don’t expect that to happen again.

Sam Bradford showed encouraging signs in his first game back and we can only expect him to get more comfortable as the season goes on. Bradford will be a big key in Sunday’s game against Dallas and the stakes are already high as the Eagles can be tied for first place with a win.
