Philadelphia Flyers 2015-16 Season Preview

Fall is upon us, which means it’s time for another hockey season! Everyone in Philadelphia has lots of questions about this years Fyers team. Questions like, how will Dave Hakstol do in his first season as the Flyers coach? What will the defensive pairs look like? These questions will start to be answered starting October 8th when the Flyers open up their season vs the Tampa Bay Lightning.

One of the greatest unknown answers about the Flyers right now is who will be their first line Left Winger. I’m not sure what the answer to that question is. However, what I can tell you is it is very unclear who will be taking that spot on the first line next to Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek. An option may be Michael Raffl, who played some first line LW last year until an injury forced him to give that spot up. Also, in my opinion, I think Dave Hakstol will give a few guys a chance to prove themselves on  the first line. Hopefully that will not take that long and someone will win that spot in the beginning of the season. One guy I would love to see given a shot at Left Wing even though that is not his true position is Sam Gagner. He was acquired in the offseason by the Flyers. Maybe a change of scenery will do him good, as he has yet to truly prove himself yet.

This Flyers season will bring lots of (hopefully) ups and not many let down moments. There is a lot to look forward to this season as a Flyers fan, as we might even see a few rookies play this season. It will definitely be an interesting season that should see lots of improvements from last season. Another thing to look closely too this year besides the rookies is the defensive pairings put together by Dave Hakstol. With the departure of Nikolas Grossmann and the signing of Russian defenseman Yevegeni Medvedev, the Flyers defense is going to look a lot different this year. Also, Radko Gudas who was acquired via the trade involving Braydon Coburn last season will most likely be making his Flyers debut this year.

These are some of the many things to look forward to for the Flyers this season. Overall, I think the Flyers will have a much better season than last year. I believe this mainly because of all the moves Ron Hextall has made in the offseason, and the hiring of Dave Hakstol. He will most likely instantly make a impact with his style of coaching vs old Flyers coach Craig Berube’s style. The Flyers will also have a good shot at making the playoffs this season. When you look at the lineup you see how much the talent has improved from last season to this season. This year they will have to do much better vs low ranked teams then they did last year when they outperformed good teams and lost to the bad teams. I believe the Flyers will make the playoffs this year. The only thing that scares me right now about the Flyers is their defense. The defense was very shaky last year, but Ron Hextall has tried to improve it in the offseason. If Dave Hakstol and the Flyers can put it all together this year, they will have a good chance at making the playoffs this season. Stay tuned for more Flyers new, and let’s go Flyers!
