One of the biggest problems in Saturday’s football game for the UCONN Huskies was the condition of the field. It looked horrible. There was a lot of brown patches on the field, especially where the stage was for the recent Police concert at Rentschler Field. At every timeout and opportunity, members of the grounds crew were out replacing divots on the field. Even head coach Randy Edsall got into the act by fixing a few. During yesterday’s conference call, Edsall said he wasn’t aware of the field conditions nor was any explaination given to him. He even said if they asked him what to do, he’d have them put in Field Turf.

“I was very troubled when I went on the field on Saturday,” he said, adding later, “If they came to me and asked me for a suggestion, I would say that we should just go to FieldTurf because I have no idea, other than if you resodded the field right now, how you would get that field to come back.”

Edsall also said that Danny Lansanah is day-to-day with an ankle injury he suffered on cheap shot chop-block by a Maine player. Edsall also said that sophomore RB Andre Dixon and freshman LB Corey Stringer have been reinstated to the team.

Schedule update: It was just announced that UCONN’s game vs Pittsburgh on September 22nd will be broadcast on ESPNU. Gametime is still 7 PM.

Caroline DotyThe UCONN women’s basketball program got some bad news from one of their recruits, Caroline Doty. Doty suffered a complete tear of her ACL. She will probably not play basketball this season but will be ready to go next year for UCONN. Having torn my ACL twice, I know her pain. I did mine 14 years ago and the marvels of medicine have changed since then. It took me a full year to recover from mine but nowadays most people recover in 6 months.

I do have to ask this question but let me preface it first. I know injuries can happen at any time but why would she be playing soccer knowing that she has a scholarship for basketball. Yes, she could suffer the same injury playing basketball but why risk it playing soccer. If Geno Auriemma wanted he could pull the scholarship offer because she has only orally committed but I highly doubt he would do that.
