With less than two weeks until the bowl game, this is becoming a busy time in Happy Valley.
Offensive Coordinator
As we found out last week, Fordham head coach Joe Moorhead will be the next offensive coordinator at Penn State. It was made official Thursday. Despite this, quarterback coach Ricky Rhane will be the play caller for the bowl game on January 2nd.
The Bowl Game
Penn State is slated to face Georgia in the Taxslayer bowl on January 2nd in Jacksonville. Georgia will be using an interm head coach and two interm coordinators in the game. For Penn State, Carl Nassib and Garret Sickles are expected to play after missing the season finale.
Recruiting
Penn State lost 4 star CB Lavert Hill a couple weeks back and are working hard to replace him. The answer comes in Pittsburgh Central 4 star CB Damar Hamlin. Penn State is recruiting him as hard as ever before. 4 star WR Tre Nixon is expected to make a decision in the next 3 weeks, his finalist are Penn State, Georgia, Florida, and Texas A&M. Penn State linebacker coach Brent Pry has been busy in Ohio during the contact period recruiting Brendan Ferns. The standout 4 star is taking an official visit to Penn State on January 22. A lot of Penn State’s commits along with top targets are expected to be there on that day. The Lions welcomed four members of the 2016 class to its family last week, Jake Zembiec, Danny Dalton, Connor McGovern, and Alex Gellerstedt. Signing day is February 3rd, updates will become weekly.
The Draft and Graduation
Late last week, Christian Hackenberg and Austin Johnson both filed for draft advisors, seemingly Penn State’s best two junior starters are NFL bound. On Saturday, multiple Penn State players graduated. They include seniors Anthony Zettel and Carl Nassib, redshirt junior Geno Lewis, junior Austin Johnson, and redshirt sophomore Adam Breneman.
