After going into halftime up 31-29, Temple’s offense fell asleep to start the second half and UConn took advantage of that, going on a 12-3 run.
The Huskies drove the lead up all the way to 52-42 with 6:28 left in the game and all hope seemed lost. That was until Daniel Dingle and Quenton DeCosey took over the game.
Dingle hit 3 three’s down the stretch then DeCosey made a no-look layup and completed the three-point play that gave Temple the lead for good, taking it 63-58.
Quenton DeCosey had a monster game for Temple with 23 points, including some clutch free throws late in the game to seal the deal. Daniel Dingle played the game of his life tonight with a career-high 15 points and shot 4 of 5 from three-point range. Dingle has had a bumpy collegiate career so far and it’s nice to see him have a game like his. Devin Coleman contributed a solid 11 points off the bench and made 3 three’s to continue his consistent output.
Jaylen Bond was a force in the paint, reeling in 13 rebounds(6 offensive) and was one of the main reasons why Temple was able to get 17 second chance points. The Owls defense really kicked in when they needed it in the second half and allowed them to finish the game on a 23-6 run. The Temple defense held Rodney Purvis to only two second half points and they were also able to limit Daniel Hamilton to 9 points in the game.
Temple has swept the season-series against UConn for the second straight season and the Owls are now in sole possession of first place in the American Athletic Conference. Temple will be back home on Sunday at 3 PM to take on USF, who they beat earlier in the year 70-63.
