Giving you some links and this is going to be Monday Night Football-heavy. Why? Because Monday Night’s Patriots-Ravens game set a ratings record. It’s not only the highest rated program in ESPN history, it’s the most watched program in cable television history. That breaks the record set by the Disney Channel set this past summer.
We begin with the press release from ESPN which has a reason to crow tonight. The Sports Media Watch gives some perspective inside the numbers. Bruce Allen of Boston Sports Media Watch looks at the record ratings as well. Jim Williams of the DC/Baltimore Examiner quotes from the ESPN press release but also look at the ratings from the Baltimore perspective. Mike Reynolds of Multichannel News says ESPN easily outpaced sister cable network, the Disney Channel’s showing of High School Musical 2, which set the record back in August. Paul Gough of the Hollywood Reporter has a version of the story. Ann Becker of Broadcasting & Cable magazine also reports on the record ratings. John Dempsey of Variety has also written a story.
ESPN is also happy to announce that ESPNU has been added by Grande Communications in Texas including Austin, Corpus Christi, Dallas, San Antonio and Waco. And the Alleged Worldwide Leader tells us that three of the ESPN family of networks have been ranked high in value in a survey of cable subscribers.
Scott Hotard of the Naples (FL) Daily News caught up with ESPN’s Chris Berman after he finished playing in the pro-am of the Merill Lynch Shootout today.
By the way, thanks to Bob Glauber, NFL writer for Newsday for posting pics of Scarlett Johansen in his blog. I’ve been needling Neil Best to do it, but he’s been posting pics of the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders, Jessica Alba and Alyssa Milano instead. If you’re a regular reader of my blog, you’ll notice Neil posts pictures of attractive women, just not Scarlett. Not only did Glauber do it once, he did it twice. Thank you, Bob.
