Wednesday Night Update

Time to give you an update that is not NHL-related.

NBC Sports has been honored with an Eclipse Award from the National Thoroughbred Racing Association for its coverage of last year’s Kentucky Derby.

Todd Spangler of Multichannel News blogs that the NFL Network’s Saturday simulcast hurt its cable partners.

The Sports Media Watch tells us that CBS was the big winner in the Patriots-Giants triple simulcast last Saturday. And Paulsen says ratings for the Sugar and Rose Bowls are lower from last year.

Brian Powell, blogging for the Sporting News, also looks inside the BCS ratings.

Even though the Sugar Bowl ratings were down from last year, Fox still won the night.

Bruce Allen of Boston Sports Media Watch tells us that the proposed Entercom-Nassau Broadcasting deal that was done to prevent WEEI’s Dennis & Callahan from bolting is now apparently off.

In his blog, Newsday’s Neil Best is impressed with the candor of Mike Breen during Knicks games on MSG Network.

Mike Pound of the Joplin (MO) Globe talks about the irresponsible reporting of two erroneous stories (involving Arkansas RB Darren McFadden and St. Louis Cardinals 1B Albert Pujols) by TV stations.

CBS’ Jim Nantz will receive the Pat Summerall Award.

That will do us for now.
