Our Friday Megalinks, Part 1

I’m playing hooky from work so I’ll do the megalinks in two parts right now.

USA Today’s Michael McCarthy writes that Patriots QB Tom Brady has become a target for scrutiny. Bruce Horovitz of USA Today takes a look at 20 years of the Nation Newspaper’s Super Bowl Ad Meter. Here’s the weekend sports listings from USA Today.

East and Mid-Atlantic

Starting with David Scott of the Boston Sports Media Watch, he lists his 18 “Oh-no’s” for the Boston media in this Super Bowl.

From the Boston Globe, Nancy Marrapese -Burrell profiles Patriots radio color analyst Gino Cappellitti who’s in his 27th year in the broadcast booth.

Over to New York and Newsday’s Neil Best who writes that radio row at the Super Bowl has a distinct New York feel. Neil also tells us that the Fox Super Bowl pregame show will mix celebrities and athletes. And in his blog, Neil says the Washington Post’s Michael Wilbon is up and writing just four days after suffering a minor heart attack.

Richard Sandomir of the New York Times looks at the tales of two MLB franchises building new stadiums, but seemingly going in opposite directions.

Here’s a surprise, Bob Raissman of the New York Daily News actually liking someone and that someone is former Giants QB Tim Hasselbeck doing analysis on “Daily News Live” on SNY. Hmmm….. Conflict of interest there, Bob?

The grumpy Phil Mushnick of the New York Post says the Super Bowl is no longer conducive for parties. What? Justin Terranova of the Post has five questions for Fox Sports’ Jimmy Johnson. And in the NYP TV Sports blog, Terranova links to a video on Deadspin that has been the rage of the internet for the last 24 hours, the 8 year Chris Berman video in which the Boomer swears up a storm on the set of Monday Night Football. It’s a classic. It’s on YouTube and it’ll probably be taken down in the next 24 hours, but Deadspin has managed to embed it on its site. See it while you can. It’s great.

Ray Frager of the Baltimore Sun looks at the Fox Super Bowl pregame show both in a real and tongue-in-cheek manner.

The DC/Baltimore Examiner’s Jim Williams writes in his blog that Super Bowl XLII has already set some records even before it’s been played.

South

Doug Nye of The State says this Super Bowl is expected to set viewing records. Doug also has his TV notes for this week.

In the Orlando Sentinel, Dave Darling wants to change some things with the Super Bowl and other championship events while he’s at it.

David Barron of the Houston Chronicle says Fox is dreaming of breaking the all-time rating for the Super Bowl which is 49.1 for Super Bowl XVI in 1982.

Ray Buck of the Fort-Worth Star-Telegram says FSN Southwest begins its Black History Month programming with a documentary on the Prairie Valley Interscholastic League.

That’s it for now. I’ll be back later with the second part of the megalinks.
