Wednesday Late Afternoon Update

Time to give you an update this afternoon.

The Los Angeles Daily News’ Tom Hoffarth writes in his Farther Off the Wall blog about Inside the NFL leaving HBO after tonight’s airing. Bruce Allen of Boston Sports Media Watch also discusses HBO’s surprise decision and also has news about Comcast SportsNet New England going HD full-time. R. Thomas Umstead of Multichannel News says the NFL plans to put a similar show on another network. Christopher Byrne of Eye on Sports Media wonders if a version of Inside the NFL will go to the NFL Network.

Jeremy Gerard of Bloomberg writes that the ratings garnered by Fox for the Super Bowl was an amazing feat especially when you factor in the Writers Strike, fragmentation and a lower overall audience for the networks.

CNBC’s Darren Rovell writes that sports memorabilia companies are now looking to sign up New York Giants WR David Tyree in the wake of his miracle catch in Super Bowl XLII.

Laura M. Holson of the New York Times reports on a new service that will use local tracking ads on your cell phone to if you use CBS Mobile Sports or CBS Mobile News. It’s hard now not to be found even if you try.

Phil Swann of the TV Predictions website tells us that FSN Northwest will air all of its Seattle Mariners schedule in HD this season.

From the Chicago Herald, the Cubs have announced that all of their games will be aired in crystal clear high definition. And Phil Swann says the Cubs are the 5th MLB team to have its entire schedule in HD.

Fans of the crosstown White Sox will see the popular Ken “Hawk” Harrelson behind the mic for the next three years according to Dave van Dyck of the Chicago Tribune.

Jon Lafayette of TV Week says YES has signed former pitcher David Cone to be an analyst for the regional sports network.
