Sox minor league player hits, pitches way to victory

Jay Johnson, normally an outfielder, pitched the 16th and 17th innings for AA Portland last night and then doubled home the winning run to beat Connecticut. He ended the game 3/6 with three walks and 2 RBI.
Johnson is 25 years old and was drafted in the 13th round in 2005. This is his third year in Portland and hit .265/.339/.387 in 411 AB last year. He is a good fielder but has too many weaknesses at the plate. This is likely the highlight of his career, but it’s definitely a great one.
