Gary Sheffield – whiny bitch, and a liar too!

In case you didn’t see it last night, sparks flew at the Cleveland Indians game last night.

Fausto Carmona threw a high inside fastball in the 7th inning that caught the elbow of Detroit Tiger Gary Sheffield. Sheffield, who hasn’t exactly had a career filled with honorable moments, stared down Carmona as he took first base. On the next play, Carmona threw a pickoff play to first base and Sheffield erupted.

He charged the mound to attack Carmona and wound up in a headlock, getting a few uncontested punches fired at his skull. Sheffield’s always fancied himself as a fighter and he wound up looking like Robin Ventura. It was priceless.

The fact that Sheffield blew his top doesn’t surprise me, nor does the fact that he threatened further violence well after the game was over. That’s his thug mentality. What did surprise me was that he lied to blame his assault on Carmona, claiming that it was the third time this year Carmona’s hit him with a pitch.

Sheffield claimed Carmona has hit him three times this year.

“Three strikes and you’re out,” Sheffield said. “And if it’s number four, it gets more violent. Trust me.”

Only thing is….Carmona hasn’t hit Sheffield three times this year. I checked.

  • April 17 – Indians win 11-1, Carmona hits Sheffield. Sheffield goes 0-for-3
  • July 31 – Indians win 9-4, Carmona does not hit Sheffield, because Sheffield does not play in the game.
  • August 27 – Indians win 9-7, Carmona does not hit Sheffield. Sheffield goes 0-for-3.
  • Last night – Indians win 6-5, Carmona hits Sheffield. Sheffield goes 0-for-2

So there’s the proof of the lie – Sheffield making up excuses for his temper again.

And perhaps…just perhaps it’s not that the big bad pitcher hit him twice over the course of 162 games. Maybe, just maybe it’s the fact that the big bad pitcher made him go 0-8 on the year. And then bitch-slapped him on the final play that the two will see each other in ‘08.

And by the way, if Major League Baseball is paying attention, perhaps they should do a little something about that threat to commit further violence??? “It gets more violent. Trust me.” does not sound like an innocent little comment.

Anyway, watch out behind you Detroit….Kansas City’s creeping up on you from fifth place. Hee hee.

Almost gametime – Go Bucks!!!!
