I may have to head into work today, but before I do, I’ll provide few links.
Starting with Neil Best, he has a column in today’s Newsday marking the 40th anniversary of the infamous Heidi Game which occured 40 years ago Monday. Ever since then, every network TV incident cutting off the end of a sporting event refers to NBC cutting off the end of the Jets-Raiders game in favor of the movie, “Heidi”. In his blog, Neil has some videos from NFL Films and the actual NBC newscast apologizing for the incident. And Neil talks with former Newsday reporter John Van Doorn who talked with Joe Namath’s mother shortly after NBC cut off the game.
On Wednesday, Neil writes that another anniversary is coming up and that is the 30th anniversary of the great Miracle of the Meadowlands.
Since Neil didn’t post it, I will. This is the actual incident as it was called by CBS’ Don Criqui and Sonny Jurgensen.

Bob Raissman of the New York Daily News talks with former MLB TV analyst Jim Kaat about the state of baseball.
Phil Mushnick of the New York Post says hearing impaired viewers are short changed in the delay of closed captioning during live sports action. This is a cause I can get behind. Sometimes I use closed captioning to help transcribe HBO’s Real Sports and there’s a delay in the captioning.
Ken McMillan of the Hudson Valley Times Herald-Record has CBS’ Dan Dierdorf singing the praises of the New York Football Giants.
Jim Williams of the DC/Baltimore Examiner writes that the Ravens and Redskins both face big tests today on national television.
Tim Linafelt of the Hampton (VA) Daily Press talks with ESPN’s Desmond Howard who hopes yesterday’s College Gameday program brought awareness to Hampton and Florida A&M.
Diane Pucin of the Los Angeles Times follows LA Sparks star Candace Parker as she films a “This is SportsCenter” promo for ESPN. And Diane looks at some of the classic SportsCenter promos.
The Sports Media Watch has its weekend ratings predictions.
Sox & Dawgs has the video from last night’s UFC91 in which Brock Lesnar pummeled Randy Couture.
