Countdown to MLB Network Launch Didn’t Rest for Christmas Day

Even though I took a break from blogging for the Christmas holiday, that doesn’t mean that the MLB Network did. Yes, a press release was sent from the fine people at MLB Network to let us know that Christmas was eight days until the New Year’s Day launch. So without further delay, here’s what the MLB Network told us that they have in store for us after January 1.

With the debut of MLB Network on January 1 fast approaching, we will be counting down the final 10 days, New Year’s Eve-style, until the Network’s Opening Day. Each day through January 1, we will reveal a new piece of news about the largest launch in the history of cable television.

We’re taking a break from opening presents to keep the countdown going……

8…… PRIME 9 DEBUTS ON MLB NETWORK

The debates have just begun! On Monday, January 5, MLB Network will debut its original program PRIME 9. This half-hour show breaks down the top nine all-time in a variety of areas in baseball history, such as players at different positions, great comebacks and unbreakable records. PRIME 9 is leading off with All-Time Centerfielders at 8:00 p.m. (ET), followed by All-Time Home Runs at 8:30 p.m. (ET).

So, who is in your Top 9? We all know the names of the great centerfielders of all time. There is Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Joe DiMaggio and Ken Griffey Jr., but does Duke Snider make the cut? What about Kirby Puckett? We’re told the show makes a compelling case for Jim Edmonds. But who will be number 1?

Which of the thousands of home runs in baseball history are forever etched in our collective minds and hearts? Joe Carter’s World Series-winning blast was exhilarating, #715 for Hank Aaron was inspiring and Babe Ruth’s called shot is legendary…but which will be number 1?

Tune-in to find out!

We’ll be back tomorrow with item #7. To recap, here’s our list of news items to date:

10. Barry Larkin Joins MLB Network

9. MLB Network to Install “Ballpark Cams” in Every MLB Stadium

8. PRIME 9 Debuts on MLB Network

I would think Prime 9 would have been #9 on the countdown, but that’s me. Anyway, we’ll see what MLB Network has in store for us on Friday, which is actually today.
