I’m done thinking about Mark Teixeira until at least 1/1/2009. With that, I scoured the Internet for two non-Teixeira related Red Sox links. Trust me, it was like finding a needle in a haystack.
- As seen on Boston.com’s Extra Bases: In the wake of “he who must not be named” signing with the Yankees (see…I can’t really stay away from the topic entirely), you might think that extending Kevin Youkilis became an easier proposition for the Red Sox. According to Adam Kilgore, you would be wrong.
“We’ve had some initial conversations” toward a long-term contract, said Joe Bick, Youkilis’s agent. “It doesn’t look promising. *snip* We’re going to concentrate our efforts from this point forward on getting a one-year deal done, whether it’s negotiated or otherwise. That’s where we stand going forward.”
- As seen on Driveline Mechanics: Former MVNer David Golebiewski looks at Jon Lester through the lens of pitch f/x. Golebiewski concludes:
“Suffice it to say, Jon Lester is well-equipped to remain one of the better starters in the American League. With two different fastballs, a devastating cutter and a sweeping curve, Lester can locate his pitches to all four quadrants of the strike zone. If there is a concern with Jon, it’s that his workload increased by a whopping 74 innings between 2007 and 2008. The consequences of that increase remain to be seen. But, if Lester remains healthy, don’t be surprised if makes a serious run at the Cy Young Award in 2009.”
Filed in the FWIW column, “he who must not be named” is hitless in three at bats with one strike out in his career vs. Lester. So there!
- As seen on Wicked Clevah: Steven O’Grady always has a way of presenting all sides to a story with thoughtful insight. For those of you “on the ledge” this Christmas, O’Grady’s words should give you some comfort (I couldn’t make it through three links without a Teix…ummm…”he who must not be named” story. I tried.)
