A look ahead at the Spurs games for the week.
Date: Monday, February 2 (9:30)
Team: Golden State Warriors (A)
TV: FSNSW
Why you should care: It’s the first game of the Rodeo Road Trip, which means this is when the Spurs get serious. We all know that the Spurs use this time to solidify the rotation and work into Playoff form. The Spurs have owned the Warriors over the last few years, successfully stopping their run-and-gun, chaotic offense. I expect this year to be more of the same, especially after the Spurs recorded wins against the Suns and Hornets recently.
Date: Tuesday, February 3 (8:00)
Team: Denver Nuggets (A)
TV: KRRT35
Why you should care: As of Monday, the Nuggets trail the Spurs by one and a half games. This is an important game because it could affect playoff seeding. The season series is 1-1 and this is the final game, giving the winner the advantage if they ended the season in a tie. The Nuggets are 6-4 over their last ten but will have had three days off. I look forward to watching battle between Tony Parker and Chauncey Billups because I think Billups can give Parker with his strength, defense and size.
Date: Sunday, February 8 (12:00)
Team: Boston Celtics (A)
TV: ABC
Why you should care: This is easily the biggest game of the RRT. The Spurs will have had four days off to rest, which means they will either be rested or come out sluggish. Right now the Celts have to be the favorite to win a Championship with the league’s best record, so this would be a statement win. However, I think the Celts have too much talent for the Spurs. Of course the Spurs can beat them, but it will take a great game by the Big Three and catching a few breaks here or there. Think back to the victory of the Lakers.
