Games of the Week (2/9-2/15)

A look ahead at the Spurs games for the week.

Date: Tuesday, February 10 (6:30)
Team: New Jersey Nets (A)
TV: FSNSW
Why you should care: Coming off the big win in Boston, how will the Spurs respond to a lesser team? The optimist in me says that was a signature win and they will carrying that momentum into the All-Star break. The pessimist in me, which usually wins when it comes to the Spurs, says the Spurs will have a bit of a let down. I think they should win, but it will probably be closer than I would like. It should be interesting to see how Tony Parker and Devin Harris match up because they are probably the two quickest guards in the league.

Date: Wednesday, February 11 (6:00)
Team: Toronto Raptors (A)
TV: FSNSW
Why you should care: Both teams will have played the night before, so that has to favor the Spurs, even if they are the older team. The purple dino’s are one of the biggest disappointments of the year, and I think they are missing an identity and confidence. Chris Bosh is an All-Star caliber player and Jose Calderon is a very good point guard, but the rest of their pieces are underperforming. This fun little chart shows the Raptors position in Marc Stein’s power rankings over the past seven years. It’s interesting to note that they started higher this year than ever before and currently hold their lowest ranking at this point in the season of any season. Yeah, the Raps are a team in turmoil.
