Tonight, will Ohio continue dominating Michigan?

Tonight at 8pm, the Cleveland Cavaliers take on the Detroit Pistons at home. I’ll be there (look for me on TV, I’ll be the guy in the LeBron James jersey) for my first Cavs game of the 2008-2009 season.

On paper, this game is all Cavs. they are clearly the better team, and the Pistons have been struggling badly since they made their supposed blockbuster trade for Allen Iverson. The Pistons were 4-0 when Iverson first took the floor in a Pistons uniform….they are 27-26 now. Below-.500 is not what they wanted from this trade, and the fans up north are still trying to figure out ways to trade A.I. and every other hefty contract. Never mind that the trade deadline has passed, but logic and reasoning never were strong suits for the residents of That State Up North.

But the Cavs taking over the Central Division is only a small example of the recent domination the state of Ohio has over the state of Michigan.

The takeover began slowly in some sports, more rapidly in others, but is now nearly complete in all facets.

  • The OSU football squad has won five in a row over Michigan, including a 42-7 curbstomp in November.
  • The OSU basketball teams (both men and women’s) have won 18 of the last 19 games against Michigan.
  • This weekend, Ohio State hockey beat Michigan, supposedly the Wolverines only sport left.
  • The Cleveland Indians have finished ahead of the Detroit Tigers each of the last two seasons, despite Detroit breaking the bank to win.
  • The Cavaliers lead Detroit by 15 games this year and have continued their domination begun in the 2007 Eastern Finals.

Tonight, will ownership continue?

Will Rasheed Wallace piss himself again and throw a hissy fit on the floor?

Will anyone at The Q be stupid enough to wear a Michigan shirt and hear the calls of “Appalachian State”?

Will Congress have to step in and declare emancipation?

Watch ESPN (or Fox Sports Ohio) tonight at 8 for all the answers.
