A Major Character Death on Lost

As you’re aware, I am a fan of “Lost”, not as much as I am a fan of “24” or “The Amazing Race”, but as you know, I set aside time to watch it as it airs on Wednesday nights.

Usually, I discount spoilers or don’t link to them, but when something major like this is reported, I can’t ignore it. I can usually discount the source, crackpot Kristin of E! Online, because her spoilers about “24” are often wrong, but when she reports about “Lost”, she’s normally spot on.

So I give you this link to read about the death of a major character on the show. She doesn’t reveal who it is (thankfully), but only to say the following:

Here’s what I can tell you about this death:

  • A current series regular is getting killed before the end of season five.
  • The character who will die is someone who is much-loved by many of you fans.
  • This is a real leaving-the-show death, à la Shannon or Charlie, not a quick-fix time-travel death like Jeremy Bentham/John Locke.
  • The character getting killed off is not, I repeat, not Evie’s character Kate Austen.

And a source close to the show tells me that the person who’s being killed off just learned of their character’s fate late last week, and the news hit hard. “Unfortunately, [he or she] found out after the script treatments were sent out to some of the crew on the set,” says my source. “So it wasn’t the best timing.”

I don’t even want to speculate on who this could be. Claire is supposed to be coming back for the season finale so I don’t think it’s her. If it’s Jack, I would be very happy because he’s returned to his extreme whining of Season 2 and has become extremely unlikeable again. The ones I don’t want to see killed off at this point are Sawyer, Juliet, Kate, Sun, Jin, Hurley, Ben, Sayid, Faraday, Desmond or Locke. The ones I wouldn’t mind being sent to a horrific death are Miles and/or Jack. But Miles is not a major character, however he does fall under the category of a “major-ish” death that Michael Ausiello of Entertainment Weekly has been touting over the last few weeks. So, we have that to chew on as we head towards the finale in May.
