Yesterday at the Mark R. Shenkman Training Center on campus, the UConn Huskies football program held their Pro Day for the NFL scouts. Almost every team was in attendance including New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.
RB Donald Brown, OT Will Beatty, DE Cody Brown, CB Darius Butler, QB Tyler Lorenzen, PK Tony Ciaravino, LB Dahna Deleston, DE Julius Williams WR Ellis Gaulden and C Keith Gray all had the chance to prove that they could play at the next level. Of those 9, D. Brown, Beatty, C. Brown and Butler are expected to be drafted on the first day of the NFL Draft.
Deleston and Williams have an outside chance of being drafted late in the draft while Lorenzen could get a free agent contract. It’s expected that Lorenzen won’t play quarterback at the next level as Belichick worked him out today as a safety and other teams looked at him at wide receiver.
During the NFL Combine, Butler wasn’t as fast as he hoped to be as he ran an unofficial 4.53 40-yard dash. Yesterday, he may have run himself into the first round as he ran an unofficial 4.38 40-yard dash.
Everyone was impressive and scouts came away surprised at Deleston and Williams.
