MLB on FOX Joins Twitter Nation

New York & Los Angeles – FOX Sports launches its 14th season this Saturday, April 11 (4:00 PM ET), once again bringing fans Major League Baseball’s top weekend matchups with regional coverage of the FOX SATURDAY BASEBALL GAME OF THE WEEK. Week 1 includes a replay of last year’s thrilling ALDS as American League MVP Dustin Pedroia and the Boston Red Sox travel west to face Vladimir Guerrero and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Other action includes the Minnesota Twins taking on the Chicago White Sox, who last season squared off in a one game playoff for the AL Central title, and the Houston Astros visiting the St. Louis Cardinals, opponents in both the ’04 and ’05 NLCS.

This season features a new on-air time and new-look pregame and postgame shows. The pregame originates live from one of the regional games on the FOX SATURDAY GAME OF THE WEEK schedule and is hosted by the versatile Chris Rose. In addition to his wide-ranging work on FSN, Rose has served as pregame, halftime and postgame host for FOX Sports’ Bowl Championship Series coverage and has filled in as a co-host of FOX NFL SUNDAY. In his new role with MLB on FOX, Rose brings fans late-breaking baseball news and notes and sets the scene for the day’s MLB action. Once the game begins, Rose joins the FOX broadcast team on location, serving as a field reporter. This season, FOX Sports’ new broadcast window begins at 4:00 PM ET, with the exception of three weeks when FOX SATURDAY BASEBALL GAME OF THE WEEK directly precedes NASCAR on FOX race coverage. On those Saturdays, MLB on FOX goes on-air at 3:30 PM ET. (see the schedule above.)

Returning as the MLB on FOX’s lead broadcast team for the 14th straight season are six-time Emmy Award-winning play-by-play announcer Joe Buck and two-time World Series Champion and three-time Emmy Award-winning analyst Tim McCarver. Joining them for the fourth consecutive year as field reporter is Ken Rosenthal. Former Cubs and Diamondbacks first baseman Mark Grace teams with play-by-play announcer Thom Brennaman, while Kenny Albert joins analyst and LA Dodgers all-time home run leader Eric Karros in the booth to comprise MLB on FOX’s other two stellar broadcast teams.

Following the lead of NASCAR on FOX, MLB on FOX has joined Twitter Nation. Continuing FOX Sports’ year-round charitable initiative, FOX Sports Supports has selected to highlight The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research during the 2009 MLB on FOX season. The MJFF is dedicated to ensuring the development of a cure for Parkinson’s disease within the decade through an aggressively funded research agenda. Since its founding, the MJFF has emerged as the largest private funder of Parkinson’s research worldwide. Each week, MLB on FOX announcers wear the charity’s pin on-air to champion the cause and refer to the organization, its achievements and how viewers can support the foundation during game broadcasts. FOX Sports airs 26 consecutive weeks of regular season coverage, the 80th All-Star Game from St. Louis, the American League Championship Series and the 104th World Series. FOX’s national broadcast audience gets its first look at the new Yankee Stadium on Saturday, April 18 when the Bronx Bombers take on the Cleveland Indians in just the third regular season game ever played in the new facility. The following week, Saturday, April 25, FOX SATURDAY BASEBALL GAME OF THE WEEK showcases the first of three matchups featuring one of sports’ most storied rivalries when the Yankees travel to Boston to square off with the Red Sox. The FOX SATURDAY BASEBALL GAME OF THE WEEK’s inaugural visit to the new Citi Field takes place Saturday, June 20 when the New York Mets host the reigning American League Champion Tampa Bay Rays for a key interleague contest. The All-Star Game and all regular and postseason games are broadcast in HD.
