You all saw the game, and you can read a good review in about 1,000 different places online….so instead, here’s the story from a fan’s perspective inside the building.
Freaking awesome. That’s all that can be said.
Earlier today, I noticed that the Cavaliers, and especially LeBron James, have a tendency to go off in the opening game of the playoffs. I wish I’d blogged that earlier, but at least the trend continued so we can add to the legacy now.
- 2006 – Cavs win by 11 points, LeBron’s first ever playoff game gets him a triple-double
- 2007 – Cavs win by 15 points, LeBron throws in 23 points to go with 9 rebounds and 7 assists
- 2008 – Cavs win by 7 points, LeBron shoots 8 of 10 in the second half, scores 32 points
- Today – Cavs win by 18 points, LeBron scores 38 points to go with 8 boards and 7 assists
From Ilgauskas’ ownership of the glass in the first half to Joe Smith taking over the game in the second quarter, this game had everything….and had to have sent nightmarish chills up the spines of Michigan residents everywhere. there literally is no way to stop this team. If you shut down one player, four more are ready to fill in the gaps.
At one point in the game, Detroit was shooting 64 percent from the floor….and LOSING! How do you trail when you hit nearly 2 out of every 3 shots??? You’re playing against the Cavs, that’s how.
Here’s what the crowd sounded like from the cheap seats as the clock ticked down to zero….
Today, there was a rather obnoxious Pistons fan sitting about 15 feet away from us. The look on his face when LeBron hit that 45-footer was priceless. He wanted to crawl inside a hole and not come out. It was the look that most opposing fans must get when James has one of those “did he really just DO that?” moments.
Of course, we reminded him of Appalachian State as he left with 2 minutes to go. His girlfriend was practically dragging him away after that low blow.
Game 2 is Tuesday night at 8pm at Quicken Loans Arena. And if today was any indication of how hard it will be to knock off these Cavaliers, by 10pm Tuesday night, Detroit will be wishing it was the mid-80s when the first round was a best-of 5 series.
The Cavs now have won 5 in a row in the postseason against Detroit. The mere words “5 in a row” has got to sting most citizens of the state of Michigan.
We go for 6 in about 70 hours.
