Jason Bay and Kevin Youkilis have got that BOOM BOOM POW.
In the bottom of the ninth, Bay launched a two-run home run to center field off of Mariano Rivera with two outs tying the game at 4-4.
After David Ortiz struck out swinging to start the 11th inning, Youkilis hammered a fastball off Damaso Marte over The Monster pushing Boston’s winning streak to eight games.
The Black Eyed Peas would be proud. The first meeting of the year between the New York Yankees and Red Sox provided more drama to the growing rivalry.
Star of the Game – Bay
Usually the hitter who hits the game-tying homer is often forgotten. Ask Bernie Carbo. But not this time.
Bay went 3-for-5 with two RBI’s and one run. He also made a diving play in left field with the bases loaded and one out which possibly prevented a second run to score in the seventh inning.
Next Game – Sat. 4/25 vs. New York Yankees – A.J. Burnett/Josh Beckett
How do you top tonight’s game? No idea. However, do not expect Boston to win tomorrow if they hit into four double plays in the first five innings; stranding the leadoff hitter for five straight innings isn’t a good ingredient for success either.
