Jason Bay maybe stealing the “clutch” title away from David Ortiz.
After launching a game-tying homer against Mariano Rivera in the bottom of the ninth this past weekend against the New York Yankees to send the game to extra innings, Bay took Cleveland Indians closer Kerry Wood deep in the top of the ninth inning to give Boston a 3-0 lead.
Bay’s blast would be all the Red Sox needed to push their winning streak to 11 games.
Jonathan Papelbon earned his fifth save allowing one run on three hits, no walks and two strikeouts.
David Ortiz was 2-for-4 in the game and Mike Lowell hit his first triple of the season off of Wood in the ninth.
Star of the Game – Tim Wakefield
Wakefield matched Indians ace Cliff Lee pitching seven scorless innings allowing just one hit, four walks and struck out five.
Next Game – Tue. 4/28 vs. Cleveland Indians – Brad Penny/Anthony Reyes
How long can this streak really go?
