Nick Green isn’t making Terry Francona’s decision to play Julio Lugo over him easy while teammate Kevin Youkilis isn’t making opposing pitchers’ jobs on the mound any easier.
Green and Youkilis both drove in three RBI’s apiece and Tim Wakefield earned his third win of the season on five innings pitched, seven hits, five runs (all earned), two walks and five strikeouts.
Youkilis continued to keep his batting average above .400 (.402 to be exact) with a 1-for-3 night including a walk.
Green went 3-for-5 with a two-RBI infield single in the second inning and another RBI knock in third. Youkilis drove in two runs in the sixth inning on a double down the third base line and drew a bases loaded walk in the seventh scoring Green.
Stars of the Game – Offense
Mike Lowell hit his fifth homer of the season — a solo shot in seventh inning — and the Red Sox compiled 13 hits and 10 runs in the win. Jacoby Ellsbury, Dustin Pedroia and Lowell all had multiple hit games alongside Green.
Next Game – Sun. 5/03 vs. Tampa Bay Rays – Brad Penny/James Shields
Can Brad Penny reach six innings? Who knows at this point but the bullpen could use a break.
