Change can often be difficult. The Boston Red Sox lineup adapted quite easily.
Boston collected 11 hits including two homers from Kevin Youkilis, a three-run shot by Dustin Pedroia and a solo-blast from Jason Bay to beat the Toronto Blue Jays, 8-2.
Terry Francona shuffled the lineup (see Francona shakes up lineup, drops Ellsbury) and it paid dividens. But Boston also had a vintage 2008 Jon Lester on the mound.
And the Blue Jays lineup couldn’t adapt at all.
Lester (4-5) earned his fourth win of the season striking out a career-high 12 batters over 6 innings, yielding three hits, one run and three walks.
The only run Lester gave up was on a Vernon Wells sac-fly in the first.
Star of the Game – Lester
As great as it was to see the offense break out of its funk it was better to see Lester pitch to his 2009 expectations today.
Next Game – Day off
Boston takes on the Detroit Tigers on 6/02. Probables: Daisuke Matsuzaka vs. Rick Porcello
