The Colts were prepared to let their long-term center leave in free agency, but a late adjustment in the salary cap allowed them to re-sign Saturday. The move certainly ensured continuity, but Saturday is 34 years old and on the downside of his career. Saturday missed four games with various leg injuries last year. The nagging injuries are likely a fixture at his age, and since Saturday always succeeded with quickness instead of brute strength, his age is likely to be particularly problematic going forward.
It’s hard to argue with the selection. We said the decision to keep versus cut Saturday was a tough one. The Colts did what was best for right now and signed him. They need a big year from him.
