The BBC Challenge – The Rules

As announced earlier today, the Buckeye Battle Cry has started a fantasy football league on ESPN.com.  The following is a detailed description of the rules that will be used for this league;

THE DRAFT

96 players were drafted for this league.  The only players drafted all played their collegiate ball for one of the teams in the four major NCAA conferences known as the Big Ten, the Big 12, the SEC and the PAC-10.   Eight teams will play in the BBC Challenge, two teams from each conference.

All players that went undrafted are free to be picked up by any team that meets the qualifications for that individual player.

THE LEAGUE

The fantasy league has been divided up into four divisions, two teams in each division.  Both Big Ten teams will play in the same division, both SEC teams will play in the same division, and so on.

Each team will play every other team in the league at least once.

TRADING/WAIVERS

Trades between teams MAY take place prior to the first game of the NFL season.  For a trade to be accepted by the league office, it must consist of  a trade between two teams in the same division.  No trades will be accepted between separate divisions, as EVERY player on your team must come from a college within the same conference as their teammates.   Example – Percy Harvin plays for SEC team #1.  He can ONLY be traded to SEC team #2.

After Week 1 of the NFL season has begun, teams will be locked down.  No trades will be accepted until the regular season is complete.  Injured players can and will be dropped by the league office, and replacement players can be picked up from the pool of eligible players not drafted.

If a player is underperforming or benched, but not injured, he may be waived and replaced by another player.  This process requires a waiver and an addition of an undrafted eligible player.  If one team wishes to pick up a player, only the other team in their division may object.  Example – if Big 12 team #1 wants to add a Big 12 player from the undrafted list, Big 12 team #2 is the ONLY team that can challenge that addition.

At the end of Week 13 in the NFL schedule, all 8 teams will participate in a playoff to determine the league championship.  Round one of the playoffs will be during the NFLs 14th week.  The semifinals will take place during the 15th week, and our own BBC Challenge championship will be played during the 16th week of the NFL schedule.

The first week of the playoffs will put each division rival against each other.  The semifinals of the playoffs will then be guaranteed to have one team from each division.

Special note – PRIOR to the playoffs, teams from the same division may trade players to each other.  The BBC encourages these trades.  We want the absolute best players from each conference to be taking the field for the semifinals and the championship.  We realize that this will leave a “Playstation-like score” for the entire first round of the playoffs, but it will ensure that the best players will play during the most important games of the playoffs.

Once the playoffs begin, NO players may be traded, added or dropped.  Each lineup will still consist of 24 players, so you may choose to change bench players to starters, but the 24 you’ve got is the 24 you play with.

ROSTERS

Each team will start the following

• One quarterback
• Two running backs
• Three wide receivers
• One tight end
• One kicker

The 16 remaining spots on each roster will make up the bench.  NO team may carry any more than the following;

• 3 quarterbacks
• 7 running backs
• 9 wide receivers
• 3 tight ends
• 2 kickers

Currently, there are no exceptions to this rule.  However, a shortage of players in the NFL, coupled with extreme circumstances may allow for a team to bypass this rule.  Any bypass must be approved by the entire staff of the Buckeye Battle Cry.

SCORING

Scoring will go as follows;

Passing

• Touchdown pass = 6 points
• 2 point passing conversion = 2 points
• Interception thrown = negative-2 points
• 25 yards passing = 1 point

Rushing

• Touchdown rush = 6 points
• 2 point rushing conversion = 2 points
• 10 yards rushing = 1 point

Receiving

• Touchdown receiving = 6 points
• 2 point receiving conversion = 2 points
• 10 yards receiving = 1 point

Kicking

• Extra point kicked = 1 point
• Field goal (0-39 yards in length) = 3 points
• Field goal (40-49 yards in length) = 4 points
• Field goal (50+ yards in length) = 5 points
• Field goal missed = negative-1 point

Miscellaneous

• Fumble returned for touchdown = 6 points
• Kickoff or punt returned for touchdown = 6 points
• Fumble lost = negative-2 points
