The NFL is crowing about the ratings for the exhibition season. Check out this press release:
NFL EXHIBITION SEASON TV VIEWERSHIP HIGHLIGHTS:
An average of 6.4 million viewers watched NFL exhibition season games on CBS, FOX, NBC and ESPN marking:
- The highest per game viewership since 2003 (6.7 million viewers)
- An increase of 53% over last year (4.4 million viewers)
This week’s ESPN Monday Night Football game (Vikings-Texans on 8/31) was the most-watched NFL exhibition game ever on ESPN with 7.9 million viewers.
This week’s NBC Sunday Night Football game (Bears-Broncos on 8/30) drew 10.4 million viewers, making it the most-watched sporting event since the MLB All-Star Game on July 14 and topped the final round of the PGA Championship (Y.E. Yang-Tiger Woods), 10.1 million viewers on August 16.
Exhibition games on NFL Network have been watched by more than 23 million viewers — up 44% from last year at this time.
For the first time, NFL Network is televising all 65 exhibition games, including 12 live contests.
The final three live games on NFL Network are as follows:
Eagles at Jets, Thursday 9/3 at 7:00 PM ET
Raiders at Seahawks, Thursday 9/3 at 10:00 PM ET
Cowboys at Vikings, Friday 9/4 at 8:00 PM ET
