We are nervous about the blitzing thing. Here’s a couple of pieces on him.
There was constant activity in “the box,” the interior area along the line of scrimmage to a depth of about 5 yards. Linemen and linebackers were on the move. Alignments and intentions were disguised. Safeties blitzed off the corners. Linebackers came.
The Colts have always run a lot of stunts and twists with their defensive line. They have moved Brock around, sometimes at end, sometimes at tackle, sometimes as a stand-up linebacker. They have had a full range of blitzes in their package, but have largely relied on their front four to apply pass-rush pressure. The back seven have dropped into soft zone coverage and hung back to ballhawk and avoid the big play. Now there’s a greater willingness to send a fifth — or even sixth — pass rusher, “to be more aggressive and actually have blitzes and know they’re going to be called on Sunday,” Jackson said.
There’s a second piece with his comments on his defensive priorities.
Stopping the run: “I think the big deal that we’re trying to do is the mind-set of stopping the run game. They are playing really hard and (racing) to the ball, which was a coach Dungy deal. I think we have to run to the ball, everybody, frenetically.”
