What Do You Want To See On Saturday? – Indiana edition

I’ve led it off two straight weeks, and the results have been awesome. Let’s not change that…..so here goes. Let’s ask the staff of The Buckeye Battle Cry the infamous question, “What Do You Want To See On Saturday?”

LOTS of gray in the stands (Mali agrees with me on this one) – As discussed earlier this week, Indiana plans to use OSU fans’ choice of scarlet-colored attire to make the cover of their media guide more impressive.  Don’t let them, fans!

100 yards from any one of our RBs – Pryor doesn’t count, he’s our QB.  No RB this season has gone for more than 100 yards.  I don’t care which one it is, I just want one of them to hit triple-digits.  Yes, I think it’s awesome that we have several options that can all pick up 5 or more on any play, but let’s start hitting that milestone.

At least a 3 touchdown victory – Michigan, freaking MICHIGAN nearly pooped the bed against Indiana last week (in Ann Arbor, no less), but they’re not really owning up to the fact that it was the lowly Hoosiers who almost got them this time.  A nice BIG win over that same team would help knock the LOLverines down a peg.

Another shutout – Yeah, I’m greedy. Our defense is playing lights out, and even minus our captain we are well prepared to deal out destruction.  Even if we get scored on, I’d be happy if it was less than 33 points (unlike some people).

Yardage? What yardage? – The Hosers went for 470 against TTUN, including 200 on the ground. Yeah, I’d be ecstatic with Toledo type digits.

TPTD – A lot of folks are saying that he’s running timid. I’d like to see him just tuck it and go.

FBTD – We threw it to our fullback on Saturday, but it was incomplete.  Let’s try it again…

Do I need to say it? – Well, until they finally choose to celebrate “False Start Free Saturday”, I guess I do.   Jumpy– I’m looking in your direction.

Jim

Continued improvement from the offensive line – The line really showed me something last week in the rain against a team who knew we were running the ball (more on that on Friday when I write my position update for the offensive line).  They were able to make some holes and gave the backs enough room to gain 5+ yards per carry even when the opponent knew we were coming at them. All of this with three sophomores getting significant playing time in Mike Brewster, Mike Adams (who got his first start), and J.B. Shugarts (filling in for the injured Jim Cordle). The point is, our offensive line is young and has only played four games together. There is room for improvement and growth from our young lineman (as well as the older ones) and if they are able to get better each week, by the end of the year we could be looking at our best offensive line in a long, long time. Improving each week starts this weekend.  Make it happen.

Continued dominance (and improvement, if that is even possible) from the defensive line – Our defensive line is truly special this year and is certainly one of the best in the country. If they continue to play as well as they have been, our defense can keep us in games against anyone in the country. I want to see the d-line continue to play inspired, dominant football even though we are playing lowly Indiana. No playing down to our opponents this year. The ‘Silver Bullets’ haven’t shut out back to back to back opponents since 1973. If the line continues to dominate than duplicating that feat is a very real possibility.  Make it happen.

Continued improvement from Pryor – Notice a pattern here? This week is all about improvement, from the offensive line, from the defensive line, and from Pryor. Pryor needs to keep working on many areas in his game, and since I am not a quarterbacks coach I will leave out the specifics, but if he can just continue to improve on eliminating the bad decisions and turnovers, I will be a very happy Buckeye. Pryor can be an elite quarterback, and he is clearly improving from week to week. Indiana is an excellent opportunity for him to take another step towards greatness.  It should be fun to watch.

The obvious one – another shutout! –  It would be great to complete a shutout trifecta, especially against 3 very different offensive styles.  Indiana’s pistol-style offense will bring a new challenge, but hopefully the Silver Bullets will be up to the task.

200 yards or more on the ground for the Buckeyes –  For the first time this season we saw the traditional style OSU running attack.  This absolutely must continue, especially as we get deeper into the Big Ten season.

Continued D-Line dominance –  If the defensive line can be as aggressive as they have the last few games, it will be a good sign for the rest of the year.  That style of play must continue.  If it does, there are few offenses that will be able to move the ball against the Buckeyes.
