Trading Places (must read)

Major tip to Oehser for finding this article by Borges.  He says the Colts are what the Pats used to be.

They used to beat you to death with a velvet hammer. They shot you with a silencer. They won so often by virtue of a late defensive play or a last-minute drive to a winning field goal that it could lead a nitwit like Joey Porter to holler, “They are NOT ON OUR LEVEL!” even after the Patriots had beaten them again.

But things change quickly in the NFL, and so they have for the Patriots and the Colts. Now it is the Patriots who try to win with overwhelming offense and a defense that applies no pressure on the quarterback and has a young secondary that seldom makes a play when a game is on the line.

Two weeks ago that formula got the Patriots beat in Indianapolis in the way it used to get the Colts beat in Foxboro. Their defense let them down, allowing 21 points in 12 minutes to blow a 17-point lead. Somehow, some New Englanders have tried to turn that inside out, insisting the defense played well because it held Indianapolis to 14 points at the half. True, but considering what followed, you sound a lot like Joey Porter when you argue it was an encouraging sign.
