If the Colts go 14-2 and win a Super Bowl, they’re another really good team that won two titles. They’re the Pittsburgh Steelers. They’re the Denver Broncos. Great, but not The Greatest. If they go 19-0 and win it all, they are remembered forever as the ultimate standard for professional sports, members in an exclusive club of one. RUN DEFENSE: B
Again, the numbers don’t suggest the Colts did anything approaching a great job — the Titans ran for 142 yards, a 4.3 average — but remember, Chris Johnson exceeded 125 yards six straight games and was making 6 yards a clip. Sunday, he had a 4.2 average on 27 carries. More important, his longest run was just 11 yards. Once again, the Colts did their best work backed up against their own goal line, with some help from the Titans, who failed to give it to Johnson on first-and-goal at the Indy 1. On one Vince Young scramble, it appeared the Titans QB could skip into the end zone, but he was tracked down by Antoine Bethea and Melvin Bullitt. This is a fast, nasty group, and it’s just getting better.
