Another complaint I hear is, “Why does everybody keep talking about the Chargers and which team can beat the Colts?”
Because the Chargers have beaten the Colts in recent years. Because the Colts have a history — maybe you’ve heard — of following up great regular seasons with playoff pratfalls. When New England was marching toward perfection in 2007, we didn’t hear these things because the Pats already had won three Super Bowls, and the way they were winning created an air of inevitability about their pursuit.
The Colts rarely blow people out. Half their victories have required fourth-quarter comebacks. Nobody really trusts them — myself included — because of that and their track record of playoff misadventures. How many fans are out there trying to figure out a playoff scenario to avoid a matchup with San Diego?
Be honest now.
