AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl: Texas A&M vs. Georgia

It’s time for my ‘better late than never’ edition of these bowl previews, and I will be putting up part two tomorrow when I look at the the Champs Sports Bowl between Miami (Fl) and Wisconsin.

My holiday tour of Ohio is almost complete!
My holiday tour of Ohio is almost complete!

It is too bad, because I was actually the most interested in these two bowl match ups (compared to the first two that I wrote), but have the least time to break them down. I have finally completed my ‘holiday tour of Ohio’ after visiting Youngstown, Akron, Toledo, back to Youngstown, and I will finally be back in Columbus tomorrow, so I have been on the road a lot.

That’s my excuse and I am sticking to it.

On to the game.

Texas A&M

Okay, confession time here, I had Aggie QB Jerrod Johnson all year in my

college fantasy league, so I didn’t really pay much attention to A&M outside of his stats.

Based on his stats, though, I thought that A&M had a much better season than they did because he put up some pretty gaudy numbers the entire year.

Upon closer examination of A&M, however, it appears that they are wildly inconsistent, and seem to be pretty awful on defense (they have given up 60+ points twice this year, once to Kansas State!).

So the A&M offense has the ability to put up a lot of yards, and potentially a lot of points, and the A&M defense has the ability to lose the game anyways because they are terrible.

Not exactly a recipe for success in a bowl game, especially against a Georgia team that just ran the ball up and down the field against BCS bowl bound Georgia Tech.

That brings us to Georgia.

Georgia

Has anyone heard anything about Georgia the entire year? I haven’t heard

much, and the only time I took notice was when they were running all over Georgia Tech, which happened to be their only victory over a ranked team the entire year (which probably explains why they weren’t in the headlines much).

They did play against highly ranked Oklahoma State in the first game of the season, which seems like a long time ago, and also seems like it put Georgia out of the national picture after losing 10-24.

They only lost to LSU 20-17 in week 5, and after that, their best game by far was their victory over Georgia Tech in their last game.

So, you would think they have some momentum going into the bowl game, but every time I have thought something like that, the team ends up losing, so who knows at this point.

A&M is 1-3 in the last 4 while Georgia is 3-1, so I am going with A&M, what can I say, I really like Jerrod Johnson.

Who Are We Picking?

Mali(7-3): Georgia

Eric(5-5): Georgia

Jeff at the BBC (4-6): A&M

Jim(4-6): A&M

Let’s go Aggies, start the comeback for me and Jeff!
