So long as Hayden and Powers remain healthy, the Colts have one of the NFL’s top young CB combinations, a combination made more solid by the presence of Jacob Lacey, who played far more – and far better — last season than many originally expected.
Lacey, who played collegiately at Oklahoma State, signed with the Colts as an undrafted free agent shortly after the 2009 NFL Draft. The Colts often talk of free-agent rookie who immediately show they are capable players, and Lacey did just that last off-season.
Throughout training camp, he showed a knack for not only defending passes, but registering interceptions, and when injuries forced him onto the field early in the season and into the starting lineup for most of the second half of the season, he played solidly with little dropoff from the starters.
