Following yesterday’s news that Nebraska will be joining the Big Ten, the University of Colorado is expected to announce today that they are leaving the Big 12 to join the Pac-10.

There has been speculation that this might be a part of a larger shift from the Big-12 to the west coast, but there were also rumors that Colorado might be frozen out of this move due to the Texas legislature’s desire to have both Texas Tech and Baylor in the same conference with Texas and Texas A&M.
These latter two schools are rumored to be meeting today to discuss their collective future.
Another Pac-10 possibility for Colorado might be that they are soon followed by Utah, bringing the conference to 12 rather than 16 as a part of the exodus by former SWC teams.
Colorado could use some good news; yesterday the program was assessed a sanction of lost scholarships due to insufficient APR scores. In their new conference, they’ll be on equal scholarship footing with at least one program, and may feel right at home.
