Another Wednesday and another episode of the Sports Media Weekly Podcast which I co-host with Southern New England media mogul Keith Thibault of Sports Media Journal.
As usual, Keith and I discuss the news of the week and we talk about the breaking news concerning Jay Glazer and Daryl Johnston of Fox Sports being hired by NFL Network to be studio analysts while keeping their main jobs on Sundays.
Then we talk about the lower ratings for the Red Sox on NESN and the team falling out of first place of all regional sports networks carrying MLB. We speculate on the reasons behind the Red Sox going from 1st to 5th place this season. I theorize that it was the deep playoff runs of the Celtics and Bruins. Keith feels it’s the team’s poor performance this season.
We also talk about the problems with NASCAR and its lack of younger viewers. We exchange thoughts on the reasons behind the loss of the 18-34 demographic for the sport and what can be done to get the younger viewers back.
And we look at why Chris Berman is being honored by the Pro Football Hall of Fame this weekend over the man who revolutionized the NFL pregame host position, Brent Musburger.
Our guest this week is the lovely Susan Shan who has recently launched her own website and blog.
Keith and I ask her about why she launched her site. We talk about why social networks like Twitter and Facebook are so important for a writer to market him or herself. And I ask Susan about her recent spat with Jen Sterger of Versus’ The Daily Line.
And I jokingly ask Susan calling herself “The Asian Sensation” when we all know that there is only one Asian Sensation and that is yours truly. I keed, I keed.
We also talk about Susan’s taking part in the Grand Master Fantasy Football Tournament which is raising money for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Another fantastic podcast if you allow me to say so myself. We always get heavy hitters on the podcast and you can look at our past lineup to see.
