In searching for a solution to his recent woes, Ugoh kept it simple-and mental.
“I’m not coming in here trying to put a whole bunch of pressure on myself. I’m just trying to have fun,” said Ugoh of his attitude during workouts in Anderson. “I’m working hard, but I’m not really stressing myself on the outcome, day to day, really out here to have fun. Just really out here having fun and giving it my all.
“At the end of the day, there’s really not much else that I can do.”
While this new philosophy is first being talked about this week, head coach Jim Caldwell believes that Ugoh’s play actually began to improve towards the end of the 2009 campaign. Three out of the four games Ugoh started came later in the season, when Johnson was held out because of injury and it was there that the coach saw an upturn.
“He was really making strides, and in the spring as well,” said Caldwell of Ugoh’s improvement. “He’s a flexible guy in terms of his ability to play guard and tackle so we’re really trying to find a home for him, exactly where he’s gonna fit in the grand scheme of things, but he’s doing very well.”
