According to Mike Anthony of the Hartford Courant, it looks as though sophomore forward Ater Majok has seen the last of his playing days as a member of the UConn Huskies basketball team.
Ater Majok’s playing career at UConn has likely ended, multiple sources have told The Courant. Coach Jim Calhoun said that is a distinct possibility, but not a done deal.
“We’re talking to Ater about his future, yeah,” Calhoun said. “That’s all I can say. He hasn’t made any decision yet, but he could certainly go back and play in the Australian professional league. Nothing’s been determined yet, but there’s a chance that kind of thing could happen.”
After becoming eligible at the beginning of the second semester last season, Majok played in 26 games (21 starts) and averaged 2.3 points, three rebounds in just 14.3 minutes of action. The most points he scored in a game was seven against Marquette and had a career-high six blocks against South Florida.
Given all the hype that surrounded Majok during his recruitment, he was a big disappointment in a UConn uniform last season. Despite what we heard about how great he looked in practice, he looked like a fish out of water for his entire stint in a UConn uniform.
And now it looks like we’ll never get to see if Majok reaches his potential in a Huskies uniform.
